=== Report: Tom Herrion to be named Marshall hoops coach ===
Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Marshall University is reportedly set to
announce Tom Herrion as its new head men's basketball coach.
The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington is reporting the school has called a press
conference for 1 p.m. (et) Saturday to introduce Herrion as the program's 28th
head coach.
The announcement comes on the heels of Donnie Jones' departure on March 29 to
take the head coaching position at Central Florida. Jones was 55-41 in three
seasons guiding the Thundering Herd, including a 24-10 mark this past year.
Herrion spent the last three years as associate head coach at Pittsburgh under
Jamie Dixon. The 42-year-old previously held the head coaching position at the
College of Charleston from 2002-06 and compiled an 80-38 record over his four
years at the helm.
The Cougars went 25-8 in his first season as head coach, captured the Great
Alaska Shootout title and advanced to the NIT. Herrion has also held assistant
coaching positions at Virginia (1998-2002), Providence (1994-98) and Merrimack
College (1989-94).
