=== Ex-Memphis State coach Dana Kirk dies ===
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Dana Kirk, who was the head coach for the
Memphis State University men's basketball team from 1979-1986, died on Monday
due to a heart attack. He was 74.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported a family spokesperson confirmed the
death.
Kirk led the Tigers to a Final Four appearance in 1985, but he was forced out
as coach after an investigation revealed he committed felonies, most notably
being indicted by a federal grand jury on several counts of tax evasion.
The Tigers were later found to have committed NCAA violations, were banned
from competing in the 1987 NCAA Tournament and had to vacate the 1985 Final
Four appearance.
